Welcome to the official web site of the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District. The District is made up of the areas of and surrounding Hayden and Rathdrum and services 106 square miles. We ran approximately 3,800 calls for the year of 2005 with a population count of 31,199. The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District is a rapidly growing area and is located in the panhandle of North Idaho between Washington and Montana. In addition to the natural beauty, waterfront beaches and trails, there are numerous lakes within 50 miles providing beaches for swimming and boat ramps for water access. Local, state and federal parks are nearby for camping and hiking, and five major winter ski areas are within 60 miles. Spokane Washington, which is 38 miles west of Hayden, offers additional cultural amenities such as a symphony orchestra, Broadway productions and award winning live theater.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District is to provide a high level of proficient and competent service to the citizens and guests within the boundaries of the fire district. Our personnel will set the standard for professionalism and compassion , while performing our duties in the most expeditious and efficient manner.

The commissioner meetings are to be held at Station 1 on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 3pm. At the address listed on the top of this page.

Services provided by the Fire District:

Fire service for the Rathdrum, Hayden, Hayden Lake, and Twin Lake Areas.
Paramedic service to the same areas.
We have one ambulance in the Hayden area that is only staffed when we have full staffing.
We provide paramedic service to the north end of the county funded by tax dollars through Kootenai County EMS.
We have one ambulance in the Rathdrum area that is staffed full time and funded by Kootenai County EMS System.
