Burn permits are required for yard waste and burn barrels. A no-cost 10 day
permit can be obtained from the
Idaho Dept. of Lands (IDL) at www.burnpermits.idaho.gov
(see instructions below)
You must call the Air Quality Hotline at 800-633-6247
(Option #3 for Kootenai County)
for conditions prior to burning.
If air quality is Green burning is allowed.
If air quality is Yellow or Red,
burning is not allowed in the District.
The Idaho Dept. of Lands has closed all slash burning for the season
as of July 8
Recreational, cooking fires, small camping fires or warming fires, chimineas, and fire pits are allowed without a permit.
You must have a copy of your IDL permit and a copy of the District's burning regulations on hand while burning.
About the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District
Provides an all-hazards response to the greater Hayden, Rathdrum, and Twin Lakes areas in Kootenai County, located in gorgeous North Idaho. We are a combination department, comprised of thirty-three career firefighters, ten volunteers, four Chief Officers, a Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Marshal, and three administrative support staff. In addition, all of our firefighters are also certified EMTs, including twelve paramedics.
Northern Lakes Fire staffs two fire engines and two advanced life support (ALS) ambulances with career staff that respond to more than 4,600 emergency calls annually from two strategically located fire stations. These stations are staffed 24/7/365. Our district is comprised of approximately 106 square miles of lakes, mountains, prairies and growing cities with a population of more than 42,000 residents.
